Respiratory Conditions

This term relates to the assessment and treatment of people with disorders of the lungs and surrounding structures. This includes conditions affecting the lungs, such as pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and cystic fibrosis. It also includes a wide range of conditions that impact the lungs, such as general anaesthesia used with surgery and severe illness requiring bed rest. Most approaches involve the use of multiple chest clearance techniques. Breathing exercises with an emphasis on basal breathing and resting positions to enable maximum functional ability are also taught in order to aid self-management and prevention of re-occurrence.
